Handy (registered name is Handy Mac Jack), a 10 year old registered sorrel Quarter Horse gelding, is the newest addition to my family. My Mom & Dad were very instrumental in how he came to live with me. I went to visit my folks early in October 2006 to see this horse my Dad was raving about. We (my husband, Dad & I) ended up going on a 4 hour trail ride through BLM property in Central Oregon, where my husband & I took turns riding Handy. During this 4 hour ride, Handy & I immediately "connected" and I knew he & I were about to become best friends. After we finished our ride, I told Handy's then owner, that I would be very honored to provide Handy with a loving home and wanted to purchase him. We solidified the deal (with the assistance of my Dad who helped me get a fantastic deal) and I became the very proud owner of this awesome horse!

He is extremely broke (has been a ranch horse for most of his life)...very gentle and seems to adore our grandkids. He follows Halie (my 7 year old granddaughter) around the pasture like a little puppy. I ride him as often as I can, weather permitting, as we get alot of rain in the Pacific Northwest. Handy & I will learn more about Cutting soon, something my folks & sister are very active in. (Cutting is where you work in an arena and separate one cow from the herd. The rider is judged by the agility and athleticism of the horse and his ability to walk the horse through the herd quietly without disturbing the rest of the cattle.) We will post photos regularly!

The Heart of a Horse
When your day seems out of balance And so many things go wrong... When people fight around you And the clock drags on so long... When most folks act like children, And fill you with remorse, Go out into your pasture... Wrap your arms around your horse. His gentle breath enfolds you, As he watches with those eyes He may not have a PhD, But he is, oh, so wise! His head rests on your shoulder... You embrace him good and tight; He puts your world in balance, And makes it seem all right. Your tears will soon stop flowing, The tension will be eased. The nonsense has been lifted, You are quiet and at peace. So when you need some balance From the stresses in your day... The best therapy you can seek... Is out there eating hay.
