These are some recipes that we found from magazines, the internet & some she made up herself. They're some of our birds' favorites.
Parrot Corn Bread
(Peaches, our Moluccan's favorite)
2 boxes of Jiffy corn muffin mix **Can also make from scratch using corn meal
2 eggs, washed & shell crushed finely
apple juice, soy milk or carrot/apple juice (same amount as called for in recipe for milk)
1 large jar of organic babyfood veggies (carrots, green beans, etc) or 1/2 C cooked mashed carrots
fresh broccoli put through food processor or blender
fresh carrots put through food processor or blender
fresh zucinni put through food processor or blender
handful of walnuts and almonds put through food processor or blender
Mix well all of the ingredients above and bake until done. Cool and then cut into 1" - 2" squares, wrap in plastic wrap or place in zip lock bags and freeze until used. I always warm it before serving to the birds. This is a favorite bread recipe of ALL our birds!

Lunchtime

This is an example of what our birds eat for lunch. This day they were served fresh celery, zuccini, carrots, grapes, pears, apple, banana & green pepper, as well as a cooked bean & rice variety. We also added steamed peas, corn, carrots & red peppers. Then topped it off with hard boiled egg and peanut butter wheat toast.

Peanut Butter & Banana Toast
(Goliath's all time favorite)
1 heaping TB Peanut Butter, unsalted
1/4 banana, mashed
2 slices bread, I use whole wheat/grain type
Warm peanut butter & bananas just a few seconds in microwave. Mix well together. Toast bread. Spread mixture onto toast & squeeze together firmly. Cut into 1" x 1" cubes & serve. Because this is rather high in fat, it should be given as treats, which our Cockatoos get once a week and only 2-3 pieces at a time. Goliath needs a higher fat diet so he gets 4-6 pieces. Goliath just scoops the mixture off the toast, not eating the bread but Kona & Peaches love to eat the bread. Fun treats!

Breakfast Burritos
Flour tortilla shells
Cooked Carrots, diced or mashed
Cooked rice/beans/pasta mix or Beak Appetit, optional
Germinated seed/grain, optional
Scrambled Eggs, optional
Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Mix cooked carrots, rice/pasta/bean or Beak Appetit mix, scrambled eggs and heat until very warm. I spread about about 1/4 c thinly onto a tortilla and then sprinkle lightly with cheese. Cook in microwave until cheese melts (usually 20 seconds or so) and then roll into a burrito. You can also sprinkle on some germinated seed/grain just before rolling & slicing. Slice into 1" - 2" pieces & serve! Our birds love these and we vary the recipe often, trying new foods. great way to get finicky eaters to try new things. Another favorite is adding pnut butter & banana to the carrots and sprinkling a little cheese.

Here's Kona eating his burrito!
